Our 2nd Annual Global Gourmet Staff Appreciation BBQ was a huge success filled with games, prizes, swag and barbecued deliciousness. The setting was the picturesque San Pablo Reservoir in El Sobrante where our office, kitchen and on-site event staff all came together for a day of fun in the sun. The weather could not have been more perfect, and although sunscreen was passed around in abundance, most of us still walked away with a memento of the day in the form of a small sunburn.
The activities started with several exciting rounds of Tug O’ War followed by a Potato Sack Race and a rousing game of Soccer. Frisbee, Ring Toss and Bean Bag Toss went on throughout the day along with boat rides on the lake. With the sun’s rays kissing our skin and the warm breeze heating up the day, everyone was very excited when it came time for the Water Balloon Toss. It was a game that most of our players didn’t mind losing as it provided a fun way to cool off.
The bar was open all day where everyone could beat the heat with a refreshing, cold beverage like our signature Summer BBQ White Sangria.
Lunch was served in the afternoon thanks to our amazing and talented cook Dontaye, and consisted of Green and Yellow Bean Salad, Spicy Coleslaw, Slow Cooked Greens, Juicy Watermelon, Seasoned Corn on the Cob, Smoked Potato Salad and Bacon Bourbon Baked Beans to accompany the main course of mouth-watering Chopped BBQ Pork, Applewood Smoked Fried Chicken, Dontaye’s very own special recipe Smokehouse Ribs and Vegetarian Jambalaya.
Dessert followed where everyone helped themselves to a DIY Strawberry Shortcake Bar and an abundance of oh-so-cold ice cream bars.
After every stomach was thoroughly full, the Global Gourmet Staff Olympics began to a roar of applause. First up was the Water Cup Race where the participants gathered in teams and had to pass off a tray of full water cups to each team member without spilling. Next was the Table Set Up Race where our on-site event staff divided into teams to show off their skills by correctly setting up an event table and breaking it down all while being timed to see who could do it the fastest.
Our big raffle took place at the end of the day – great prizes were given away including several flat screen TVs courtesy of San Francisco Ice Company, our insurance broker David Clayton and Global Gourmet.
This day would not have been able to happen without donations from our amazing sponsors. We want to give a HUGE thank you to Standard Party Rentals, The Exploratorium, Legion of Honor/de Young Museum, Chefs Warehouse (BIA Outlet), San Francisco Ice Company, Penske Truck Rental, Classic Party Rentals, Champlin Wireless Communications, Inc., David Clayton, Greenleaf Produce, Southern Wine and Spirits, Young’s Market, Company, Wine Warehouse, DBI Beverage, Inc., BiRite, Aramark and Bay Area Distributing Company.
